Dreaded Sunday

As much as I am not looking forward to the new hectic school semester, it is finally here. It is the last day to rest up and energise myself before going into the battlefield again. I am looking forward to the next holiday already so that would be my major source of encouragement.

I have been crazy busy on the scrapbooking front. A lot of assignments to be completed and lots of writing to be done. It is challenging but at the same time, so rewarding to be on design teams. I feel that I have grown so much more and have build up that confidence that I never knew I had. (:

So this layout is for today... I will find some time to blog during the week, hopefully.

Have a great week ahead!

Revamp

I have an IKEA Expedit Shelving Unit for the longest time. Half of the cube's spaces are used to store my scrapbooking items while the rest would be considered my own personal work stuff and a junk space. Recently, I decided that it was time to revamp the whole unit. That mean, spending quite a bit of time to reshuffle things around, spending money on buying new props and making some DIY home decor items.

There is still a lot of work to be done but I am almost 75% done and I feel so much happier whenever I walked into my scraproom. It feels a little more like a haven. Here are some home decor items made thus far..

The first two photos are an altered frame and glass bottles that I got from Typo. I focused on using my American crafts papers and products.  The glass bottles store my buttons, pins and clips. As for the last photo, I used my remaining AC Lucky Charm collection and did a simple embellishment-focused frame. Notice the phrases and words on each item? These words provide a positive vibe and reminds me of the goodness of scrapbooking.

Have a great week ahead.

This week

This week has gone by so quick. Before I know it, I would need to attend meetings this Thursday and Friday. Cant believe the new school semester is starting again. I am trying to scrap hard now, enjoy a little more time doing what I love and take the time to rest more.

So yes, I have been scrap productive so far. Going to try to complete more layouts by tomorrow. For now, a layout to share. (:

Happy Tuesday.

Inspiration everywhere

Where do you draw your inspiration from? For me, I draw it for daily life's experiences, Pinterest and blogs. Recently, I have been inspired by these shapes : triangles, grid lines and hearts.

Triangles. I am so in love with this symmetrical shape and how it can be aligned in all different angles. I got these images while surfing Juanna's blog.

And hence, I have been inspired to use the triangles elements on a page. How about a sneak since I cant release this layout just yet?

Grid lines. You guys should know how much I love grid lines. I use them so often in my layouts, be it irregular sections or squares.. You have seen it all. They continue to inspire me further as a scrapbooker.  Here are some that I found from Pinterest.

An upcoming layout inspired by these grid images...

Lastly, Hearts. Corrie Jones is by far one of the most inspiring artist I have known. Ever since I have known of her, I have been such a big fan and her blog is one that I do read so often. My inspiration of hearts came from this layout of hers.

When she first shared about how she made these hearts on her layout, I was so so inspired. I did mine on the Cameo and i love how it turned out too. Here is my take ...

This was also done in conjunction for CSI #77. I varied the sizes of the hearts on my Cameo, lengthening some of them and making some of them wider. Then, I welded all the hearts together so that they could overlap one another and spread across the page. I tried some new techniques of ink splatters by using a big brush as well as complementing the grey splatters with some stamping.

Inspiration is truly everywhere. Let your mind go free and be inspired. Remember to link your sources because these artists so dearly deserve all the credits.

So where do you draw your inspiration from? I would love to hear about it.

Just experiences and
your reactions to them.

Hello Polka Dots

Have you check out Crate Paper's June Hello Polka Dots Creative Weekly? More details can be found in this link HERE.

Dots. Dots. More Dots. Who doesn't love them? Crate sure does if you haven't noticed already. The Pier caters to a variety of playful dots, as does every other CP collection out there. The classic, go-to pattern pairs seamlessly with stripes, florals, solids, and more. It's a nice change of pace, especially next to bright pops of color!!
;

I am such a big fan of polka dots. I used to devote a whole section of polka dots papers when I first started scrapbooking. This even went on to buying lots of polka dottted clothes and it is truly a fashion statement.

For this layout, I focused on using up beloved gold polka dots washi tape and made a background like you see above. To create a non uniformed look, you can ripped some of the washi tapes while tucking some of them behind the white cardstock. I went a little crazy with the dotted trend and added a pink dotted camera, a gold dotted tag and some cool dotted thickers.

On the side note: I am really missing the family vacation we had last December in Malacca. I am missing the big house, the great food and the good weather. This picture captures the girls having such a great time exploring the house we stayed in. Nothing beats it now even as we are fighting against the haze situation in Singapore.

In any case, I hope this layout inspires you to play along with us this month.
Happy Thursday.

Techniques and Tricks #03

Today it is all about misting.

I would be sharing some tips that I have experimented and loved after all these while. This post would be split into 2 parts as it might get a little lengthy so I would focus on 3 techniques today.

It doesnt matter which brand of mists you own. They all work the same and the techniques that you see below can be applied too. Some of the techniques might be new while others might be what you know so pardon me even as I go through the steps. I will also be linking up my layouts after the technique has been shared so that you can have a clearer idea of how it can be transacted into a layout/project.

So lets get started...

Technique 1:  Basic small splatters

1) Tilt the bottle slightly to ensure that the mist seeps into the nozzle
2) Place your hand on the nozzle
3) Use hand motion to tap on the nozzle

Here are some layouts using this technique:

Technique 2: Big splatters

1) Spray a good portion of mist into the bottle cap
2) Use your hand motion and aim at where you want it to appear on your page

* Tip - the more mists you spray in the bottle cap, the bigger the splatters.

Here are some of my layouts using this technique...

Technique 3:  Mixing mists

Think back about your primary colour charts and understand that once certain colours are mixed together, an addtional colour might appear. So think of Red + Blue = Purple, Blue + Yellow = Green etc.

1) Simply choose the colour scheme you are going for
2) Spray both colours so that a certain section overlaps with one another.

Here is an altered album I did using this technique...

I hope you find these techniques useful thus far. I will be back with Part 2 real soon. For now, do experiment with your own mists and remember, that more practice equates to better understanding and control of this medium.

Hello Hello

I am back. After 7 days of travelling, I am finally back in Singapore. It feels great to be back and I certainly miss Singapore. Haha. Korea was great nonetheless. It was the first time going to a country in which we didnt know the language nor how to get around. I am glad that months of planning meant that we were prepared and we certainly didnt get lost that much. We spent our time exploring places, eating Korean food and walking a lot. A LOT. Sharing some photos that I took...

And speaking of travel photos, I did a travel themed page using the latest OA's Travel Girl Collection. Did I mention how big a fan I am of October Afternoon? This line is no exception to their previous travel line and I am in love. (:

Loving those blues and greens in the page. The elements in the line are up to my alley and I am certainly going to use this line for my Korea photos. I cant wait to get started. So I hope everyone is well and finding time to scrap. I will scrap hard before school starts again.

Happy Wednesday.

The start of a good break

Even though my 3 weeks break is upon us, I still have not being able to enjoy much. Reasons being:
  • Mum's full medical check up (accompanied her for 3 days)
  • Had to go back to teach today and tomorrow
  • Last minute preparation for my Korea Trip (leaving next Monday)
  • Flu Jab
So with all these all my mind, I am truly looking forward to finding some time for myself, hopefully by tomorrow. I do have a couple of layouts to complete before I leave on Monday so I am praying that I would have enough strength to do so. I just havent had time to even think of getting creative, simply because there are 1000000 things to do.

Here is sharing a layout I did for Crate Paper that went live today.

I shared some tips of how to make your own customised vellum pockets. I must say, I am truly obsessed with vellum right now. I have been using them on my recent layouts so stay tune as you will see more.

Will be back for one more post before i leave for Korea.
Happy Wednesday!
